Booking Process

• Comunication with outfitter on what packages or custom package is needed.
• Setting of dates which will have arrival and departure dates from Port Elizabeth Airport unless other arrangements are to be made.
• Safari deposit is payable upon booking as no dates will be held without a deposite payment. Payment details will be sent with each payment due.
• Once above has taken place a Hunt Contract will be issued.
• Clients can then decide to do their temporary import permits for the rifles they will be bringing to Africa OR you can make use of a support group by the name of Air 2000. They are also a meet and greet service that meet and talk you through customs.

Air 2000 Hunters' Support service in South Africa can arrange.

• Air charters;
• International and domestic scheduled air tickets;
• Temporary import and intransit firearm permits;
• Hotel bookings;
• Transfers to and from hotels, guest lodges and major airports;
• Sightseeing tours;
• Shopping trips;
• Firearm Storage;
• Meet and greet service for incoming hunters, where you are met off the incoming aircraft, assisted through arrival formalities, permit in hand and ready for a good safari.

For temporary firearm importation permits you need to complete and send to us:

• A copy of the South African Police Service SAPS 520 form attached. You must complete sections E 1 to E 25.4, G, I and J, (please don't forget to sign both sections I and J and submit the full application of 8 pages);
  
  
• Please complete the SAPS 520 in black ink, no other colour will be accepted.
  
  
• An authorization to Air 2000 to obtain a permit on your behalf in the form of the attached Hunters Support Form to be completed and signed, giving hunters' support permission to obtain your permit in advance;
  
  
• An original notarized copy of your passport,(photo and signature page) and the passport must have a minimum of two free pages including the visa endorsement page in a US passport and a minimum of four months validity after the termination of the hunt.
  
  
• An original notarized copy of Proof of ownership of your firearms in one of the following forms:
  • The US Customs form 4457 OR
  • A letter from your local sheriff in the form of an affidavit confirming ownership OR
  • An invoice from the gun shop where you purchased the firearms OR
  • A copy of your firearms license. Whichever is applicable.
  
  
  
• An original notarized copy of Documentary proof of export of the firearms in the form of:
  • For all US citizens, US Customs form 4457 (one copy is sufficient)
  • An original notarized copy of the Proof of Ownership (4457) and passport must be signed and stamped as true copies of the original document by a Public Notary.
  • A letter of invitation from your outfitter confirming the dates of your safari, where you are hunting, what species you are hunting and what firearms the outfitter suggests you bring that is applicable to you hunt.

You need to ensure that:

• You have a maximum of four firearms, not more than one of the same caliber.
  
  
• The Frame, barrel or action are marked with the same serial number.
  
  
• Check with your airline to the number of firearms they allow per passenger as many airlines are now specifying a maximum of two / three firearms.
  
  
• You may only bring ammunition applicable to the firearms that you will be bringing to South Africa.
  
  
• If you wish to bring a Semi-Automatic shotgun for bird shooting, or a custom made handgun the application should arrive 30 days prior to arrival at the Hunters Support office.
  
  
• For Semi-Automatic shotguns or handguns, you must supply a letter of motivation stating the reason for wanting to bring a semi-automatic / handgun to hunt in South Africa. It must be an original request....with a good reason otherwise consideration will not be granted.
  
  
• In many cases if the handgun is custom made and it is not on the Central Firearms computer, you will be requested to obtain from the manufacturer a letter stating that the firearm is used solely for hunting purposes. Pictures of the firearm can be requested by Central Firearms. In this instance consideration of your application can take longer then the specified period.
  
  
• For handguns :
  • The outfitter supplies a letter confirming that the handgun will be used for hunting purposes only.
  • If required by Central Firearms the outfitter must supply a letter of confirmation from the province where you are hunting that Nature Conservation have no objection to you hunting with a handgun.
  • The outfitter is also required to inform you the client in a letter of invitation that you the hunter/client must be aware of the South African Firearm Regulations and that you client/ hunter must adhere to the storage, transportation, handling and use of the firearms as laid down in the regulations, namely the Firearms Control Act 2000 (Act 60 of 2000).
  
  
  
• The proof of ownership (US Customs form 4457) and passport copies are notarized as true copies of the original.
  
  
• The firearms control act has been implemented in its intirety from January 2005, applications need to be completed correctly and submittted timeously to avoid any unforeseen mishaps.
